State Health Lab
Long before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, officials in the state of Alabama recognized a growing need to replace their 40-year-old, aging and outdated state public health laboratory.
Caddell was chosen as the prime contractor for the project, in part due to our expertise in biosafety and substantial high-tech laboratory experience. The new 65,000 SF laboratory features 21,000 SF of Biosafety Level-2 (BSL-2) and 4,500 SF of Biosafety Level-3 (BSL-3) lab spaces.
The project included all laboratory casework as well as select equipment, including biological safety cabinets, fume hoods, sterilizers, modular walls, and glassware washers.
Areas in the laboratory include:
• Dairy testing • Lead testing • Radiation control • Chemistry • Microbiology • Mycology • Newborn screening • Secure sample storage • Central accessioning • Glassware wash • Sterilization room • Media preparation • Emerging infectious disease testing
