Vertical and Short Takeoff and Landing (VSTOL) Aircraft Facility

VSTOL AIRCRAFT FACILITY | Caddell Construction

Project Scope

Construction of a new 200,000 SF facility for the repair and rebuilding of the Marines VSTOL or Vertical Systems Take-off and Landing (Harrier) Aircraft. This sophisticated complex project encompassed a large multi-use hangar, a full-service maintenance/repair shop, and various administrative/operations offices. Construction was performed while the air station continued in full operation with five active runways and other adjacent facilities which severely constricted access and storage at the site. Also, craft manpower had to be transported by bus to the site due to limited parking. A system of off-site storage and a carefully designed access/egress schedule were developed to ensure the project completed on-time and on-budget, despite the major logistical challenges.
