Walmart Import Distribution Center

Project Scope

Caddell was responsible for the preconstruction services and construction of a new, $200 million, import distribution center and ancillary buildings for a major retail company.  With a large jobsite of over 230 acres, substantial site work was required prior to beginning construction on the 2.77M SF import distribution center building, flow crossdock building, fire pump house, and guardhouse.  Also included in this project was a truck court parking area to accommodate over 2,400 trailers with 10-inch roller compacted concrete over 6-inch of base stone, and a standard duty asphalt associate parking lot to accommodate approximately 1,400 car stalls.

The distribution center is a 36′ clear conventional steel framed structure with corrugated metal deck, insulation, and single-ply membrane roofing. The perimeter walls are constructed with tilt wall panels, and the building includes approximately 25,000 SF of office and maintenance areas within the main structure. The floor slab is conventional slab on grade with joint reinforcement.

The warehouse is serviced by 226 dock doors, knock-out type doors, 40,000 LB mechanical levelers, dock seals, and dock lights/fans. The building includes one MFL (Maximum Foreseeable Loss) wall and was fitted with conventional steel pallet racking throughout (not in GC scope). Also included in the scope for this building were hydrogen fuel stations, an ESFR (Early Suppression, Fast Response) fire sprinkler system, HVAC ventilation with thru-wall louvers and roof-mounted exhaust fans, and five 3,000 amp electrical service transformers.

The 205,000 SF flow crossdock building is a 22′ clear conventional steel framed structure with corrugated metal deck, insulation, and single-ply membrane roofing. The perimeter walls are constructed with tilt wall panels. The building includes approximately 5,000 SF of office area and maintenance areas within the main structure. The floor slab is a conventional slab on grade with joint reinforcement. The crossdock is serviced by 226 dock doors, knock-out type doors, 40,000 LB mechanical levelers, dock seals, and dock lights/fans and also includes several hydrogen fuel stations for fork trucks.

The fire pump house features one diesel fire pump and one electric fire pump with each pump located in a separate room divided by a 2-hr fire barrier. The building is a conventional steel framed structure with corrugated metal deck, insulation, and single-ply membrane roofing. Building walls are conventional metal wall panels with insulated man doors. Two 300,000-gallon water tanks are attached to the pump house to serve as a primary and secondary water supply.
