Project Scope

Multiple projects at Kennedy Space Center included construction of the Complex 39-A and crawlerway. Scope consisted of a concrete launch pad, flame trench, arming tower, underground control buildings, astronaut escape system, underground blast dome, high pressure gas storage building, and gas converter-compressor building. The three-mile long crawlerway involved 800,000 cubic yards of compacted select sand, a sub-base extending to 15 feet, and three feet of graded crushed aggregate base course topped with a bituminous prime coat.
